Ash peered into the cage. She saw a hen with an expression that she sort of remembered. It was her. Her friend.

Stone watched in curiosity.

Ash looked into this cage. She thought for a moment. Saffron. That was her name. “Saffron! Saffy! Wake up! It’s me ash. I didn’t die.”

Stone inspected the latch on the young sleeping female's cage. It was the same sort, but all gunked up. He tugged at it.

Ash looked into this cage. She thought for a moment. Saffron. That was her name. “Saffron! Saffy! Wake up! It’s me ash. I didn’t die.”

The white hen watched curiously. The younger red hen in the cage had said she didn't remember her name.

Saffron woke with a start. Ash. When she fell out, saffron yelled for her. It was time to escape.

Wren watched from behind the pallet. Humans were moving huge flats of brown eggs into boxes on the back of huge cars. She shuddered.

Suddenly one of the humans started walking their way.
