Somewhere down in Texas
Hi everyone! I ordered 2 batches of chicks from McMurray Hatchery and they came this past week and the week before. They all arrived happy and healthy and I definitely recommend them to anyone who is looking to get chicks, beginners or experts. They have a pretty good selection of breeds, and add new breeds every now and then. They have really good quality birds and they are very healthy. Out of 2 shipments (orders) and 32 birds we only had 1 DOA (which was a polish).
I have lots of pictures to post and hope you can post pictures and stories of your birds from McMurray Hatchery.

I ordered this year.

3 female silver leghorns
3 female red leghorns
4 female white orpingtons
2 male white Orpingtons
2 female rose comb brown leghorns
2 female buff laced polish

Lost 2 reds within 48 hours, the 3rd is a failure to thrive, and looks 4 weeks old at 8 weeks, but is healthy otherwise. 1 silver had a foot problem and almost had to be culled, but now walks fine with some broken toes. Lost a polish at about 4 weeks for an unknown reason, just wasnt doing great one evening and was dead the next. The orpinhtons are bloody crazy.

Everyone was sexed right so far though

At least three of your ameraucanas are actually Easter eggers.

McMurray Hatchery is about a half hour from where I live, and a friend of mine sometimes works there, which means no minimum number to buy and no shipping cost.

So, this year, I got three Cochin Bantams (2 of which were roos, of course; the girl has terribly crooked toes but gets around fine), a Columbian Wyandotte and a Bielefelder -- both girls.

Aside from Maxie's toes, everyone is perfectly well and thriving. I have three older McMurray girls I got from a friend who was getting out of chickens. Those two Cochin Bantam girls and the Blue-Laced Red Wyandotte are three or four years old now and doing well.

The vet who sees my chickens (and whom I practically worship out of gratitude that anyone will see my poultry) got 30 chicks from McMurray this year. She knew someone who worked there, and she said there was apparently an oversupply of chicks at one point, so they sold assorted "mystery" breed chicks for $1 each. You gotta love a vet who falls victim to chicken math, don't you?
