The McMurray Hatchery thread 🐣🐤🐄

McMurray Hatchery is about a half hour from where I live, and a friend of mine sometimes works there, which means no minimum number to buy and no shipping cost.

So, this year, I got three Cochin Bantams (2 of which were roos, of course; the girl has terribly crooked toes but gets around fine), a Columbian Wyandotte and a Bielefelder -- both girls.

Aside from Maxie's toes, everyone is perfectly well and thriving. I have three older McMurray girls I got from a friend who was getting out of chickens. Those two Cochin Bantam girls and the Blue-Laced Red Wyandotte are three or four years old now and doing well.

The vet who sees my chickens (and whom I practically worship out of gratitude that anyone will see my poultry) got 30 chicks from McMurray this year. She knew someone who worked there, and she said there was apparently an oversupply of chicks at one point, so they sold assorted "mystery" breed chicks for $1 each. You gotta love a vet who falls victim to chicken math, don't you?
That’s awesome! If that were me, I would end up with 2 new chicks every week! So, maybe that wouldn’t be good. Lol

Here’s my 5th ameraucana (EE, not really sure what they really are). One of the 5 is supposed to be a cockerel and the other 4 pullets.

So in my McMurray flock I will have 28 hens and 3 roosters. Is this okay you think? :)
Unless my other mystery chick is a rooster, (which makes 4) then what do y’all suggest I do?!?!

Hey everyone,
Some of my McMurray chicks are 2 weeks and 2 days and some are 1 week and 2 days. I was wondering what age they can go outside during the day for little field trips. I’m kinda worried about coccidiosis because my past flock got it and I lost 3 birds. What should I do? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks! :)

Thank you! 😊 iv posted pictures in other groups no one has been able to tell me. I did post on the hatchery page she said blue laced red wyandotte but they have yellow legs. I'm pretty sure this one is it unless I messed up Identifying the others šŸ˜…

Oh, that’s a tough one! Definitely doesn’t look like my BLRW. Do you have pictures of when she didn’t have feathers? My guess is Bielefelder because of the barring, but I could be totally wrong. Good luck!
