The messiest dust bath

I had to drag Clara Bell from her dust bath the other day. I think she would have slept there. VERY HAPPY chicken.

I remember my girls were taking a big old dust bath one day when I came out with treats. Treats of course, will get them OUT of their dust bath. Well, my big BO came up and had some treats and then shook. She had to have had a pound of dirt up under all those feathers.

She waddled off and left two perfect foot prints in the dirt on the patio. All I could do was laugh out loud. I really should have photographed it.

Y'know how everybody says chickens dust bathe to combat external parasites, like mites and lice?

I think chickens dust bathe because it's fun! And obviously pleasurable.

Yes, the pecking order has been established. They are all fairly good to each other though.

And ChirpyChicks, those cicadas are LOUD and annoying right now. Not sure I've ever heard them as loud as this year. This is only our second year with land though.

Ours aren't as bad this year as normal, but I know exactly what you are talking about lol Normally it's hard to even hear someone talking but although we are finding a billion shells we really aren't hearing them.
