the method of holding a chicken on its back for sexing?

Old wives tale.
Same as the one where holding a bird by its feet head down and a pullet will hang its head and the cockerels will curve their neck so they are looking up.
Or the one about round eggs hatching one sex while the pointy eggs hatch the other.

If you put 100 chicks on their back or suspend them, you'll get either sex to exhibit one trait or another with no reliable indication.

If all the same breed, all healthy, all the same age, cockerels will have thicker longer legs earlier than pullets. Cockerels will develop pointier hackle, wing, saddle feathers and the tails will eventually get a downward curve. Pullets will have rounded feathers (hen feathered)

You'll just have to wait and see.

Thats what i thought. I used this method on 7 bantam cochins (two two month were right on point but i figured it was a coincidence because i also have heard curious fiesty chicks are roos which ive found out to be false pullets can be playful or fiesty and curious too) and the five approx five 5 weeks old exhibited contradicting results so i assumed
(Two older approximately two months of age, roo and white pullet pictured)

However his tailfeathers are coming in faster which i heard normally a pullet feathers out quicker could have an exception to every rule.. or maybe this breed is easier to identify as i have read and heard
