What does it mean when the ducks are shaking their tails real fast side to side, when they are standing and walking around?

I see them do this a lot, especially when they out of the pool, so i was wondering if it has something to do with their oil gland or if they are just shaking off water.

But i see them do it on land too, especially if i am about to go in the aviary, so i am not sure if it means they are freightened or excited or something.

They will start walking away or towards me and shaking their tails real fast as they are walking.

Our mama duck is sitting on a nest and there must be at least a dozen will they all hatch? This is all new to me so any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bev:)

yes they should if fertile, most species can handle 8-15 eggs, some teal species and smaller ones do a little less, but as long as she can cover them all, and they were fertilized, then yes she should hatch them all off just fine.
Once she does, just watch them, they are so small they can get out of most pens, or are easly picking for other animals and bully birds.
Good luck with them.
What type are they?

Hey everyone! Just thought I'd update.... the breeding season left me with 10 ringed teal, 4 mandarins, and two wood ducks....but, to my surprise. My ringed teal female is on another nest she hid from me. So that means she layed the whole time I took eggs, sat on a big clutch and hatched them, raised those babies, and is now on another clutch and its almost September...she is awesome!

Hard to get good ones like that. They are known to be very productive though

Does anyone know of a breeder of mallard ducks that are breed towards the APA SOP? I got some from the feed store this year and they were too big for the show (not a surprise) and I rarely see them and I really like them.
