The Migratory/Ornamental Waterfowl INFO Thread

Talking about getting that transform form right away, i'll no better next time. I've been trying since before christmas to go through the guy who runs the auction to try and contact the seller, but still nothing. so i did what i should have done in the first place and got the contact info for the guy and emailed him, emailed me back that night saying that since they were silver bahama pintails i didn't need the form but he would try and get one sent anyway (i thought about asking him why i would need one for a silver wood duck then but didn't want to push it) strangely enough i had seen his email before on another site and saw that he was from SEkansas and just out of curiosity i typed his info on that one website that was on the news a few nights back (its called spokeo, freaky website- you guys might one to check it out and get your info removed from it) and come to find out he is in the next town over, so if i don't get them soon i might just make a trip to talk to this guy in person to get this mess straightened out!

you're right, in the Feds eyes, a bahama pintail is a bahama pintail, they dont care what mutation it is, it is still they same SPECIES. Species are all they care about, normal, white, silver, red or purple, you have to have it on them.

sent off for my Permit last week.
Why do they need to come out if you have to send pictures and diagram of the Aviary. I really don't like strange people coming to my house when I am alone and I know they aren't going to come on a Saturday when hubbie is home

Most likely it is going to be your local Game Warden that comes out, so it' will be a Officer, not just some random office person.
They have their reasons I'm sure, mainly, they dont trust anyone, so they come to inspect first hand to be sure what you have is what you are really saying. Also to make sure everything is securely penned, healthy looking, and well maintained.
They also have the right to pop in on you at any reasonable time of day time threw each year for pop inspections. I'd get about 3 a year, but that was mainly cause of the fact that my local gamewarden just loved to come look at them.

If you arent NPIP certified yet, they are the same way, they have to come out and test them all, but then can pop in for ramdom health inspections at any reasaonable time of day, usually for private small scale breeders though, they leave you alone for the most part.

P.S.

Mine did always come on Saturdays, they cant inspect if you arent home, so they figured out when I'd be there and that's when they would always come, doesnt mean everyone will have it that way, but that's what mine did, and they were always very friendly.

Ill leave out the NPIP certification. Its not a big issue for me. The only reason Im getting the federal one is so Im legal to sell the migratory ones. Is the federal one 75 dollars once or every year renew? I forgot.

every renewal, cant remember is it's annual or every two year though

just dont get caught on shipping, it's a misdemenor offense with a good fine for shipping without the NPIP papers, if all sales are local, then it's not an issue, you dont have to have it to sell within your home state. There are a few states that still dont require it, some that do but dont check, then some that will burn your butt if you send them in without it, I found a few of them, LOL...

Well then if its too much hassle to get both of these things. I may play it by ear and see how it works out for Kanga and exoticducklover. I basically want to sell all of mine in one fatal swoop in the fall. I know the federal permit isnt nothing ,BUT one of my best friends close by ( BTW This was the main man that got me and my son hooked and alot of birds and connections) had both permits and he said he couldnt stand when the game warden would check him because it was more about you should do this and give them that (this was on his hoofed animals too) and to be honest this is why he doesnt keep nowhere near what he did. His place was better than a Zoo till he did thisand took great care and conditions. Long story short he said he wishes he would have never done it cause the guy still checks him even though he has no permits now. I guess thats the bad side of the coin and close to home. you might get good people or bad to inspect you.

yep, I guess it varies person to person. I also had arctic timber wolves, arctic foxes, mink, and God knows what else, that all fell under state inspections too, now they were much tuffer on those than the birds. Birds mainly they just would always check my record book and just make sure everything was healthy and not living in filth.
The animals were a hole other story, pens, escape proof obviously was their main concern there, as well as husbandry. But they were never really bad on the waterfowl.

Like I said, the NPIP is only for out of state sells, so if you do like you plan and just sell them at home, you dont need it anyway, and that's not done by game wardens, licensed state testing agents come out for that one.
