Sorry for the quality of the pictures, battery was about dead and they wouldn't sit still.

Not quite true skin, but definitely not good lookin.

the drake in pics 2 and 5 was the small duckling i posted a ways back in this thread and it seems that he has become the dominant male.

I think it's just the molt. Keep an eye out for the next few days and watch the others around him, but think That's all it is, doesnt look too picked or raw or anything, so , so far he's gone be fine

Ok, I'm usually always out there watching there behavior anyways. Really didn't think it was too awful serious or anything just that the bald spot surprised me when it suddenly appeared within a 24hour period, and i was unsure if i was going to have to divide the new aviary I'm building in half or something. (which might not be all that bad of an idea considering i could be 100% sure of who is breeding who..) Thanks.

(whats with the maintenance thing?)

not sure what that was about either??

Yep, it never hurts to have a divided pen, especially if working with color mutations, but they should all get along fairly well as long as they arent packed in on top of each other. Think you'll be fine like you are, unless you just want to split them like you were saying

How long does duck food (pellet type) last?

I bought some when i got my ducks in June and immediately put the entire bag into several large plastic bins that i keep closed.

It will keep for a fairly good while like that. Only problem is over time the nutritional values in it start to degenerate.
I wouldnt keep it over a few months before I got a new bag just to be safe.

Ok, I'm not sure how long the breeder had the bag, but I have had it since the beginning of June, so i guess it's a good time to go ahead and buy a new bag? It's been over 3 months.

Cool news, if you look at the pic of my mandarin drake in those last pictures you can see a line right down the middle of his head. That line has now grown into a cool orange and green mohawk. haha.

great to hear, thought that was all it was, but never hurts to ask.

Hottentot,
yes I would go on a replace it now, maybe you can find it in 25# bags, that would be a lot better in your situation to keep it fresh and from wasting it, of course you can allways just buy more ducks too to use it up! LOL

Sorry if this is off topic, but I though this awesome thread may be a good place to ask this!

Soooo I am VERY interested in getting some migratory waterfowl. I am looking into Cackling geese, barhead geese, and barnacle geese. I want something that will make decent pets. Does any one have a good place for me to go to learn more about keeping these geese? Does anyone have any experience with them or one they would reccommend over another? Thanks!
