I was going to post something similar and you beat me to it. I'm going to tell my story here, anyway.
3 or 4 years ago I joined my first forum. I only joined then because I was at my wit's end and SO needed help with caring for an elderly parent with Alzheimer's. So I found their forum and joined. Don't get me wrong....there are wonderful, informative people there who are excellent caregivers and gave me some much needed advice. In fact, I learned more about the disease there than any one person should ever have to know. But unfortunately, they don't have a good moderation plan. I personally, did not have any problems. But so many people on that site would bicker and name call and gouge people for no apparent reason. I haven't been on there in over a year. Still have my dear Mother with me, but I took what I could from that forum and ran! It may have changed over time, to add more moderation, but I haven't bothered checking. It's such a shame to see an important site like that become a battle ground. I've thought, since finding BYC and realizing that they DON'T all have to be that way, that maybe I should send a BYC link to the people at the Alz. website and show them how a family forum should be run. And you know, to be honest, over there it seemed to be the Christians against the people who either aren't, or who don't advertise it. I hate to say it, but it could really get ugly over there sometimes. I used to think, don't we all have enough on our plate? We have to pick fights with strangers, too?
Thanks for letting me rant here.
And thanks to BYC for being so diligent.
