Crow has a 4th baby now. Maybe it's because she's a silkie, or because he's literally the same color as the other 3, but she doesn't even care that he's almost 4 days younger and just hatched last night. She's babying him and the others all the same

Also have a pair of D'uccle hens trying to hatch. Might move them before I leave, but I'm running out of cages

She’s the only one like that. That pattern only recently emerged. She was solid black. Those were eggs I hatched from when all of my BCs were in the same pen together. I had black, buff and red cockerels with black, blue and buff pullets.

How similar genetically is penciled to laced?

No clue. With either one, I’d still like to know how it occurred. All the parents were solid colored birds. There’s no telling what these hatchery birds have buried deep in the gene pool.
