The Moonshiner's Chick Chat

So back when I was a teen I used to raise a lot of different bantam breeds. A kid I knew up the street wanted to get into showing birds so one day his mom stopped buy and asked me about getting her some eggs.
She'd been reading up on incubators and was ready to give it a try. I was running an old school hovabator back then and a sportsman cabinet.
She decided to buy a hovabator so if she had any questions I could help since I was familiar with that brand.
She got her incubator and I got her a bunch of eggs together. Next thing I knew she was knocking on my door and saying she was having trouble getting it hot enough. Said she had it turned all the way up and it still wasn't even close. I was a bit perplexed and started getting more info.
Come to find out she was trying to get it to 300° give or take a bit.
I was like WTH? True story, she said it said to set it too 100.5° or whatever and that it took 21 days for them to hatch so she figured if she tripled the temp they'd hatch in a 1/3 of the time.
Apparently 7 days was better then 21 for her. Genius, that one was.
Stick em in the oven for a week. 🤔

Went back to check the last egg. It was out the nest and in the pen so she felt something was wrong with it and rejected it. So I went ahead and put 8 more under her. She took fine to them doing what she does best. Here she is putting them right where she wants them.

Are you going to put the reject in the fridge for a day and see what was wrong with it?

In other news there was a bunch of buff brahma chicks at the feed store. Lady asked me if I wanted any just before I asked for a 50lb bag of starter lol. She said they usually sell out in hours. I don't know market price for those but 8 dollars each sounded kinda high to me. But I may be wrong in this economy

That’s ridiculous, but people will pay it.
