The Moonshiner's Chick Chat

Off topic but, I like the way your pens are made.
Thanks it's worth it's weight in gold. 12 feet long 3 feet deep and tall. 4 stall 3x3x4. I use it for chicks, brooding hens, injuries etc. Two stalls has chicks, and one has a hen on eggs right now. It's about 30 feet outmyback door away from the dome pens and I have cameras on it along with 3 more cameras scattered about so I can get there quick incase anything happens cause it's not protected by electric fence like the domes. The domes are individually protected by electric wire

I just built a 10ft long by 2ft wide by 2ft deep brooder box. We are splitting in two sections this weekend getting ready for chicks arriving next Friday. I can see it from my bedroom window with our back flood lights on. Brother has been a big help in getting it built.

All the leghorn eggs are now set and moved into turners, plus 4 duck eggs!

For years I've used box tops for feeders. My wife brings them home from work. Wayyy less waste than an actual feeder and gets them leg muscles building. After they get nasty just chuck/chunk them (I burn mine ) and put a new one in

Oh that's a great idea! Of course, we just threw the last ones for the year out 😑

Awesome idea. Also love the pen build. I hope to build something like it later, more for bantams and grow out. I do like them being on the ground as much as posable when growing up.

I'm so jealous! Lol at all these beautiful chicks! By Monday if not before, my chicks in the incubator should be hatching. Though I have 2 very very VERY stubborn broody hens right now... im not sure if I want to let them hatch them. I'll be moving soon and I don't want to stress any new babies with mommas.

On a side note, since I lost my serama rooster Carlos, I'm having a heck of a time trying to find another rooster.
