The Moonshiner's Chick Chat

Pics
Haven't checked the cochin yet, but the Cornish hatched another, so the 3rd should hopefully be here by tonight.

and the Pheonix rooster is so excited she's apparently hatching his chicks (she's not. At all), that he didn't even care that I was touching him. First time I've ever touched that bird without restraining him first.

He and the white female that lost her chick are incredibly fascinated with this clutch

These two are pretty light chicks, so I'm thinking they're from a dark hen and my wlr male, so they'll end up mostly white with some faint lacing in spots. The chick she lost a few days ago was definitely from a wlr hen though. Hoping that the last one is too. I love my darks, but their babies just are not what I enjoy seeing if I'm being honest. Just kinda boring since that white takes away most of the color

Okay, looks like cochin mama only has 2 hatched so far, but it's only been less than a day since the first hatched, so I hopeful for more. Looks like she's on another 10 or so eggs. I'll candle tonight to try and more along any that won't be hatching
Both also look black, so I think they're from my barred girl. Hoping for some blues though since they'll be barred too

Thinking maybe mystery is a male. Those wattles are a fully visible and red compared to the pullet. Not as much as the male by far, but the female still doesn't have any that are visible at all.

And below is Finch (still undecided if she's a oegb or a D'anvers with the wrong comb [something unfortunately common with IDEAL]) and Sia, my sexlinked mix I hatched out (the dark beaked one drinking)
