The Moonshiner's Chick Chat

Torture is an odd word. I'd agree that it's just as bad as breeding for crests in ducks though. Unnecessary.
I have yet to see a silkie born with the deformities that crested ducks seem to constantly produce. Maybe because I don't hatch hundreds of them, but they seem to be very different in that risk. Especially breeding two vaulted together

And see, that's where I just don't agree. I do not think it's 'torture breeding'

Like I said, it’s just one Dutch person’s opinion.
But it is interesting nonetheless.

Got 2 hens broody. A brooding grey so ill switch her with kelso eggs Sunday shoukd have 10 eggs for her by then. Also the buttermilk grey hen with the Harold Brown broodcock. Of course one I don't want any chicks from. Focusing on kelso. So I guess in about 22 days I'll have some grey chicks if anybody wants to take a ride. I don't have the real estate available for anymore Grey's but they are the fastest Grey's I've ever had. Probably only the Roundheads were the only ones that's ever been faster on this yard.

I sold 5 of the 9 Cochins that I said I was keeping. There were 4 of the really light ones. 2 cockerels, 2 pullets. I kept one of the cockerels, both pullets and a darker pullet. Those will definitely stay with me. Also sold a RIR cockerel. He was a fine specimen! I sold them to one of my old little league coaches and his 2 grandkids. 😂 small world…

So how many "blues" did you end up with from that hatch?
