Ya I have a metal one. Had it first but it would condensate or something. After about 3 days the chips would be damp. A week and they'd be soaked. Idk but couldn't have that. Few years ago one at work froze and got a small crack in the bottom. Boss said something about needing a place to toss it any.
Of course I thought I'd give it a try and told him toss it in my truck I'll take it. Few months later another one cracked through the threads for the plug and leaked so I got it.
That first year I loved them. Didn't have issues like with the galvanized one.
All you need is to make a lid. They're easy to clean and don't deteriorate. I've collected them since when I find an affordable one which isn't that often here since it's farm and redneck land.
That one the guy actually lost the plug so didn't want to mess with finding a correct threaded replacement. It's a small hole so I'll probably just slap a piece of heavy duty duct tape over it.
I have 6 now. Ones pretty short so I use it for week olds to spend a week in. Some still jump out but older then that I'd be a real pita to keep them in while feeding and watering.
