The Moonshiner's Leghorns

those tubs Ive got one thats raised so many chicks from since i was like 6 years old the metal 110g troughs do not compare
we also raised quail in it, but they could just walk out the drain, so we plugged it. RN im using it for a cow and a few goats
Ya I have a metal one. Had it first but it would condensate or something. After about 3 days the chips would be damp. A week and they'd be soaked. Idk but couldn't have that. Few years ago one at work froze and got a small crack in the bottom. Boss said something about needing a place to toss it any.
Of course I thought I'd give it a try and told him toss it in my truck I'll take it. Few months later another one cracked through the threads for the plug and leaked so I got it.
That first year I loved them. Didn't have issues like with the galvanized one.
All you need is to make a lid. They're easy to clean and don't deteriorate. I've collected them since when I find an affordable one which isn't that often here since it's farm and redneck land.
That one the guy actually lost the plug so didn't want to mess with finding a correct threaded replacement. It's a small hole so I'll probably just slap a piece of heavy duty duct tape over it.
I have 6 now. Ones pretty short so I use it for week olds to spend a week in. Some still jump out but older then that I'd be a real pita to keep them in while feeding and watering.

i have 3 tall metal ones, 2 short, and the big rubber plastic one
there is a hole in my barn between the 2 enclosures that perfectly fits the plastic one so its there and I have a remote water refill system made with some pipes to the hose spigot

I've got multiple chicken pens and even when I consolidate them over winter it's multiples.
I've thought if I ever become rich and expense, time, materials etc isn't an issue and I could rebuild everything I'd make pens side by side and front to back. That'd make 4 pens share 1 corner. I'd fabricate them so I could have one good sized rubber tub that would extend into all 4 pens.
Build a drain system for easy cleaning. A pipe system to fill from a distance. I could use one heater/driver and be set.
I could do 12, 16, 20 pens, whatever with far less water bowls then individual bowls per pen and it would make it feasible for thawed water during winter which in itself would be worth it.
