The Moonshiner's Leghorns

What a bad day today. Another work day with extra work.
Woke up almost a hour later then usual. That'll make the work day even longer. Coffee maker decided to take it's time. 25 minutes to make one pot. Luckily 15 minutes of that I was still getting ready. Still, time for a new one and add more time to my late start.
Work was just work and on the way home I spotted a garage sale so I stopped even though I thought I should just get home asap. Yeah, new in open box coffee maker $5. Sweet if it works. Guess I'll know in the morning.
Days looking better. Wrong... came home to fridge giving out. Ugh. Swapped frozen stuff without losing much to little chest freezer. Freezer half felt about fridge part should. Swapped fridge stuff to freezer part. Hope that holds out for a bit.
Guess I'll be spending my extra chickening time tomorrow hunting a decent used fridge. Maybe I'll find a new in open box on at a garage sale. How cool would that be.
Chicken chores done now and sun is going down. It's always something.

Ameraucana are the worst to wait for them to lay eggs. So slow.
I had no idea.
I think all of them take too long but I'm not good with patience.
Most of my leghorns I think start by 7 months. I don't keep track to much and time of year matters. I know those Orps could take 11 or 12 months quite often. Brahmas were slow for me too.

I'm gonna say April.
Ok, thank you! So I won't have to start hunting for egg's at least until sometime in March incase one or two might decide to start early. It will also help me to know when to start them on layer feed.

🤣 ya I was thinking maybe, just maybe March but didn't want to get your hopes up and then you be disappointed. I think April is a safer call.

Hope you find a fridge soon.

OK now back to the chocolate project...

The hatch should of according to the odds (of the duckwing chicks) produced 75% gold duckwing and 25% chocolate gold duckwing.
I'm thinking in the pics that's 2 GDs and 2 CGDs.

I don't know anything about solar. Sounds like a fabulous plan but idk. What are trying to run? Laying lights so small draw LEDs or big watt brooding bulbs?
Just laying lights, so LED would work. I compromised with my husband and am down to putting lights in 2 pens. So we are running a heavy duty outdoor extension cord to power the two lamps. I have the chickens I want lights on all in the same row, so hopefully by the time I need to turn the heat lights on in the brooder building, I will have enough eggs that I can turn off the laying lights.

The solar powered option sounds good, but I would have to do some research first.

It literally is always something. My husband had to buy a truck last Saturday because his old S10 work truck has finally kicked the bucket for good it looks like.

I hope you are able to find a fridge for a decent price!
