Every white bird I've had here has been coyote bait. We tried brown Leghorns but they were absolutely feral. We got them with some EE as day-olds and even at that early age, the difference was apparent. They laid well, but I felt that they were miserable having to tolerate the presence of humans, so never got any more. They just panicked whenever they saw us, it was sad.

YES!! Hatchery Brown Leghorns are absolutely feral! Thank you for proving my theory on that. They are MUCH more wild than the whites or any other variety I have. They act like they will perish if you even look at them. Like literally, if you stare at them for too long through the wire of the pen, they panic. I am thankful my Browns from Don are a bit less feral, but still not as calm as my Buffs.

I have many white birds free ranging here and they do the same as any other bird. But our dogs keep the coyotes away, thankfully.

I have my flock down to 20ish…? All of them are from this year’s hatches. Mr Floppy the RIR rooster has 9 pullets. At least 6 of them are laying. My flock of Eggers (or mutts) are led by a predominantly white no name rooster with green tail feathers. None of my egger pullets are laying yet. They were my last group to hatch and I suspect it will be January before they start laying.

My rooster guy is either going to find me some OEGBs to breed or I will get some hatching eggs from him when his young ones start laying. He has fawn duckwing and BB red.

I’m still working on converting the 2nd doublewide trailer we acquired from the purchase of adjoining property into a proper shop. I just turned the power back on so I can see what I’m doing and actually be able to operate saws and other fun things. I will have a busy winter. Thankfully our winters are not as brutal as MO winters so I don’t hate it quite like Moony does. I’m doing all this while still working out of town so I get one day a week to work on this project plus all the other things around the house that need my attention. Good times

My winter plans are to kick most of my chickens out of the coop

Nope just blue eggs. Not even nougat or caramel filled either. I would pay big money for chickens who laid Cadbury eggs. Like obscene money.

This is my son’s Blue Ameraucana cockerel. We will be backcrossing him to his Splash mother. Both are only heterozygous for beards so hoping for some fully bearded offspring. Reckon I could get that kind of money from them?

Wait that means dealing with people. Nope.

I'm with you on the Cadbury egg's as long as the outside coating was chocolate. Never had a blue coated one before.
