YES!! Hatchery Brown Leghorns are absolutely feral! Thank you for proving my theory on that. They are MUCH more wild than the whites or any other variety I have. They act like they will perish if you even look at them. Like literally, if you stare at them for too long through the wire of the pen, they panic. I am thankful my Browns from Don are a bit less feral, but still not as calm as my Buffs.Every white bird I've had here has been coyote bait.We tried brown Leghorns but they were absolutely feral. We got them with some EE as day-olds and even at that early age, the difference was apparent. They laid well, but I felt that they were miserable having to tolerate the presence of humans, so never got any more. They just panicked whenever they saw us, it was sad.
I have many white birds free ranging here and they do the same as any other bird. But our dogs keep the coyotes away, thankfully.
