I think that people that want those really high prices for the purebred hatching egg's are trying to make sure that people who buy them will want to keep breeding them pure. The thing is though, that if only 2 or 3 egg's hatch, people will add other breeds to them so that they have company. It won't meant that they actually will breed them pure. This is my son’s Blue Ameraucana cockerel. We will be backcrossing him to his Splash mother. Both are only heterozygous for beards so hoping for some fully bearded offspring. Reckon I could get that kind of money from them?
Wait that means dealing with people. Nope.

Not me.Those are crazy prices! How many should I put each of you down for, at those prices?![]()
That is alarming. I've seen some post wanting $900 but they have an offer button. Those guys probably want you use the offer button.Speaking of Ameraucanas, look at the prices of these BBS Ameraucanas on Ebay! @NagemTX

That is a big problem with people who raise Marans and cross them to create Olive Eggers. It is extremely easy to get those mixed up, especially in subsequent Olive Egger generations and backcrosses beyond F1.I think that people that want those really high prices for the purebred hatching egg's are trying to make sure that people who buy them will want to keep breeding them pure. I definitely wouldn't pay that price unless they were coming from a reputable breeder. It would be my luck, no eggs would hatch. lolThat is alarming. I've seen some post wanting $900 but they have an offer button. Those guys probably want you use the offer button.
This guy I don't think so. Unless its a farm you know and have talked to them I wouldn't pay that much on eBay.
I have to admit, I have paid more for chickens. lolNot me.
Edited to add that I would rather spend it on some prime beef roast and steaks.
That's very true. That is a big problem with people who raise Marans and cross them to create Olive Eggers. It is extremely easy to get those mixed up, especially in subsequent Olive Egger generations and backcrosses beyond F1.
Also, if only 2-3 chicks hatch and you maintain them pure, you are starting from a very small and limited gene pool which lends to pretty hard inbreeding.
That is true also. There is no guarantee on shipped egg's hatching, especially when you don't know how the sender will be packing them, or how they will be treated in traveling to the destination.I definitely wouldn't pay that price unless they were coming from a reputable breeder. It would be my luck, no eggs would hatch. lol
