The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Absolutely, I was just thinking it would be a little tricky with the lavender single comb cock and brown rose comb hens because i usually breed back to lavender for all lav offspring in f2, but breeding f1 together would produce a percentage of f2 lavender birds. Hopefully one if them would be a rose comb male, then breed back to rc browns for f3 splits, then breed those together, and f4 hopefully would hatch enough to have a decent selection of lavender rose comb offspring to breed together and finally get a 100% rc lav hatch in f5.

Does that sound right? When i just need back to the lavender parent i get 100% lavender hatches in f2, that's why i thought it sounded a little trickier.

Breeding the f1 splits together would still produce single combs and big sloppy rose combs, sho you'd have to go back to rc browns again to eliminate that rather than breeding the f2 lav together, no?
How much experience do you have breeding Isabella and/or splits? How many generations?

@The Moonshiner it just occurred to me you could do a 55 Flowery pattern with mille fleur rather than simple mottled, right?

My "reach" variety would be lavender+barred+mottled on gold duckwing (lavender 55 Flowery). Maybe i should change that to lavender+barred+porcelain though...
The only difference would be barred porcelain would have Columbian and lavender 55s would not.
MF/porcelain is mostly thought of being on Wheaton but it can be on duckwing or partridge also.

I was having such a blonde moment trying to figure out why it would not work. I had no clue I was getting punk'd.

But to stay on topic. Moonshiner I love all the chick pics here. You hatch a lot of chicks. Love all the different colors all mixed together.
Thank you. I do hatch a few but not nearly enough IMO.
Yes getting so many different patterns in a hatch is fun. It can be a pain to keep track of what's what with the eggs in the hatcher and then getting them all marked but it's worth it.
Most of the project eggs can result in different patterns hatching so what hatches is a surprise. Sometimes its something I don't need and sometimes it that 1 in a 100 that was the goal. That's the exciting part.

I can see why you've gotten confused, because they're both the color buff. You don't usually see the color buff in hatchery birds that aren't orpingtons. In reality, orpingtons look like this:

While leghorns look like this:

As you can see, it's a very different body shape. Leghorns also have white earlobes, while BOs have red.
Omg! I didn’t ever even notice the white war before tysm!<3

I'm hatching my second generation on one breed now, f1 splits on the other breed. I haven't yet had need to breed f1 splits to each other, but I'll be doing some of that this year. All single combs, though, so I was more interested in the comb genetics than the lav genetics on the rose comb thing.

Curious because your post from earlier seemed off. It was a bit hard to follow so wasn't sure if it was too confusing or if you had it wrong.
Also you seem to have strong ideas about breeding with the lavender related issue and how to bred against it.
I thought at one time you said you didn't believe it could be bred out but another time you said it could.

Hey! I'm blonde. And I am not stupid. Not all blondes are dumb. It's stupid to judge someone's intellectual ability based on their hair color. :plbb
