The Moonshiner's Leghorns

These birds are from Curtis Oakes, who lives up in NW Pa. From what I understand he has had these since the 60s.
These birds need a lot of work but are showing good vigor. The pullets have just came into lay and the eggs are fertile, so this winter I hope to single mate the pullets and hope to get good numbers on the ground. Pedigree hatching and wing bands should give me an idea what traits are dominate or lost and then start all over again next season. Sounds simple doesn't it. LOL Been working with LF american Dominiques now for close to 10 years and have shrunk the size and bone structure down to where the standard calls for, while keeping and finding good type and working on improving color ond combs. Sorry it sounds like I am tooting my own horn, but this is a lot of work! That is why I only worked on one breed until I got them to where I wanted them, now that they are consistant in type and color I can move onto another project. Here is a picture of my Dominique cockerel that took BB (and I had a pullet that took RB in a class of 39), and went on to take Reserve American at The Ohio National.

this is a Dominique hen I did not show because she was not finished out from molt. You can see the similarity in size and type of the Dominique compared to the leghorn. The Dominique is not as long and not as froward in the breast. So this is what attracted me to them. I wanted a variety that is rare, instead of the same whites or browns.

"Tooting your own horn" :lau
No worries. I get it.
You go ahead and blow the h€ll out of that horn.

The browns are the regular brown leghorns so since they're so common I don't think I have any pics.

I can see about getting some of the blacks when I get a chance and a phone to borrow.
I don't seem to have any on this phone of any black adults.
