@moonshiner, thoughts on this “Columbian Leghorn” I saw at a show? My first thought was: boy is it ugly. Also, why would anyone decide to bring it to a show?

And the Ancona hen with a deformed, crippled foot that couldn’t walk properly. I don’t care if someone brings non-standard-bred birds, but at least bring healthy, well-conditioned non-standard-bred birds???

Sweet Jiminy Cricket, that poor rooster! I didn't even know that rooster spurs could get that big!

You know this makes me think, I’m not sure I’ve actually seen a well bred leghorn. All I’ve seen is hatchery stock and I’m not sure if I’d be able to visually see a difference like I have with barred rocks

I have show photos for every occasion. Out of all well bred birds Leggy’s are among the well brediest. But most of my photos are on another defunct device.

Honestly a terrible photo. Leghorns have this sweep up out of the center of their back. Wait. I may have an illustration...

He is a handsome roo. Good job on the drawing! I have trouble with beaks, but I’m getting better at wings.

Not sure where I was on the incubator when I last posted but its pretty much done. All I need is to find a pan for the water and put it in then get a couple hygrometers and slap them in.
I added a slider dimmer switch so I can adjust the lower fan speed. It blows fairly hard so I'm gonna see if I can slow it down and maintain even temps.
I was at about 1° difference from top to bottom with 6 empty egg turners in it.
At the same time my son wasn't happy with the little red on indicator light. He wanted to add a regular light so we could see when it kicked on and off better.
The only real area we had to fit one was at the top. He then came up with the idea that that might add some heat up there.
Genius for a six year olds mind. And it worked. After installation the temps were constant dead even from top to bottom with four different thermometers.

Your incubator has turned out amazing! Well, assuming it works as well as it looks like it will. I have a question about your turners. Are they easy to slide in and out on those wire racks? What is your plan for candling?

The shelves are tight so they don't move. No worries about them trying to slide with the turners. I placed them so the bars on top run front to back and then put the turners so the two sides that sit on the surface and are the strongest part to span the bars. They slide in and out really easy.
The trick will be when theyre full. With the weight they can fell real flimsy. This year I used them in hovabators and used a separate one for hatching.
When it was lockdown id pull the whole turner of eggs out and move to hatcher where id sit it next to it to pull eggs and put them in the divided areas of the hatcher. I'm doing ok with moving them full of eggs you just have to hold the right areas.
I don't hardly candle so didn't plan that out. Ive been hatching just about every 6 days until of late so candling would be a much added chore. Sometimes id candle when going into lockdown most times I didn't even bother.

I believe this is still the current APA single comb varieties...
Black, Dark Brown, Light Brown, White, Buff, Silver, Red, Black Tailed Red, Columbian, Golden.
You can actually show any color but unrecognized varieties are limited on what they can win.
