I’ve seen some really cool pallet coops!!! With a little paint and creativity, amazing things can be done!!I wanted to build a bunch of pens this year to be set come spring but these d@mn wood prices are killing a hillbilly's dream.

Oh that's awrsome. I might have to do something similar to that next spring with my 4H (my birds aren't amazing either, but they're local and I do have some varieties now that you'd have to get from a specific hatchery otherwise.I heard about the poor health.
Gosh.
Meanwhile we have something called a 4-H hatch where people sell and donate eggs from high-quality breeders to my county 4-H poultry leader to hatch and sell to kids at 3 dollars a chick. Obviously not all are going to turn out show quality but it’s a lot better than the hatchery stock most kids are showing. We got some really nice Silkies from that, and they’re just for pets and meat. I wish I remember who they came from.
I’m sort of annoyed by one fact though. Lots of 4-Hers from other counties came but few came from my county, they didn’t even take advantage of it!
Where’s my competition going to come from?
The process is long, complicated and incredibly expensive. Otherwise if be bringing in my own dealing cuckoo polish and ayam ketwas instead of hoping to find some real ones on EbayThat’s a great strategy! I never would have thought of that! I wonder if it would be possible for someone to import their own birds too? Probably not? Idk the process or anything but I’m sure it’s complicated. Just wondered if it might be cheaper that way and getting quality birds than going through them but it’s probably better to just do it the way you said and find someone here that has them and is working with them.
Someone on a different thread mentioned that they can get the lower crates from boxstores free because otherwise they have to pay to get them taken away. Maybe that would work?I wanted to build a bunch of pens this year to be set come spring but these d@mn wood prices are killing a hillbilly's dream.

I donated to it using the same eggs I hatch from. Gotta have some competition, right?Oh that's awrsome. Sometimes I see "shipping crates" that people have got. They're basically plywood boxes. I often think that's an easy brooder right there.Someone on a different thread mentioned that they can get the lower crates from boxstores free because otherwise they have to pay to get them taken away. I work at an automotive dealership and usually heavy Engines & Transmissions are shipped in crates and pallets. We are under construction so stuff arrives on the daily here and I have my eyes peeled. I built compost bins using pallets.Sometimes I see "shipping crates" that people have got. They're basically plywood boxes. I often think that's an easy brooder right there.
Not sure what kind of business get them or what sort of stuff ships in them.
Someone figure it out and I'll go on the hunt.
