The Moonshiner's Leghorns

The auction place has an October sale date up. Next Saturday.
Now I need to sort through lots of birds and put together as many cages as I can.
Our work Halloween party is also coming up so they're asking us for overtime if at all possible to get things ready. Gonna be a crazy busy week.

I hear you on the overtime, when this UAW stricken is over I’ll be doing 12 hour shifts every day for a while. We supply GM so when they get going it will be crazy. But I’ll take the money, especially before the holidays!

Busy couple of days. The auction was tonite and it wasn't canceled :celebrate
Was off work yesterday and spent the day finishing sorting and the evening caging. Loaded the truck two deep front to back and strapped them all down.
Had to work this morning so went in early then at 9 I ran that load up and unloaded then raced home and almost over filled the truck again. Dropped them off then back to work.
Missed actually going to the sale because today was also our work Halloween party.
Got as many birds as I had time to get ready up there. Around 320 or 330.
About 280 were cockerels. Glad to see most of them go.
No November auction and rumor is that they might cut back to only doing 4 a year. 1 every 3 months. I don't like that plan. I could easily probably let another 200 go in the next couple months.

Do you have a guess of how much you made on the birds? What happens if you have a bird/group of birds that don't have any bidders? I doubt that ever happens, I'm just curious

In other news I did get another incubator. Not sure if it's fully operational yet. Haven't had time to check it out to that extent. I know it needs a good cleaning on the inside. That'll all be a winter project.

I have no idea what I'll make and since I didn't attend I'll have to wait for a check in the mail and that might be end of next week. They're never In a rush to get those checks in the mail.
There's no no sells. If no one is interested they offer them for $1 a piece and will pretty much just set there holding up the sale till someone takes them. There's usually one or two different guys there every sell that buys anything and everything that sells for $1
I'm not expecting to get a lot since most were cockerels and they fetch the lowest prices and mine were all youngsters so not big fat eating birds.
I'm looking at the real money I'll make is cutting my feed bill for winter.
D@mn action is still taking like 40% and I think that's ridiculous. Know someone that's going to a different place. Well it was today too but they charge 25%. She has been to this one many times and is trying the other place out for the first time. It's about a hour away or maybe a bit more.
I'm curious how it goes there.
