When you have chickens, there is bound to be a few rats around. We have 2 farm cats and that helps quite a bit.The way we built the old coop was infested with rats though xD
Lesson learned, no hollow walls this time...

I’m pretty sure I’m capped on chicken projects now. But if I had a red shed, I could buy more chickens.![]()
..... nonsense!Yeah I have read it is a nightmare variety to perfect. Its a good thing I already have the Speckled Sussex to keep me occupied on MF. I don’t have time for too many shenanigans.Mil..... nonsense!
It's a mess
You still have to build the pens, though...Absolutely!
Imagine how many Leghorn colors i could have!
Even Black tailed Red!
We had farm cats and they were useless in that endeavorWhen you have chickens, there is bound to be a few rats around. We have 2 farm cats and that helps quite a bit.
AmenMy new to-do list:
1. Get more money.
2. Get red shed.
3. Buy more chickens.
Maybe my husband will build some more? It is soon to be my birthday after all.You still have to build the pens, though...

Well, the outdoor cats were babies and the indoor outdoor cats were useless
Mine stay in the office/hatch room in my house for about a week as well. Then out to the garage till about 6 to 8 weeks then out to an integration pen.I have house chickens now. lol I keep newborns in the house for a day or two until they get on their feet well enough to go to the bigger brooders in the building. So this time of year we always have house chickens.![]()
We have different brooders for different stages. They go in the building in the big stock tank brooders once they are a few days old, then once they are about 2 weeks old they go into the wire bottomed brooders because they start flying out around then until around 6 weeks old. After that they go to the outdoor brooders until they are sturdy enough to turn out with the gen pop. We are constantly rotating chicks through this process this time of year. Most of the chicks we let free range until the breeders we need are old enough to be bred. Layers remain free ranging except for my husbands beloved White Leghorn hens and a few Sussex just because the white birds tend to be more prone to getting taken by predators.Mine stay in the office/hatch room in my house for about a week as well.
