The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Awesome! Congratulations on such a productive year. Post pictures as they grow and feather out.
:love

I can't unfortunately keep them all and last year wasn't a good year... chicks were hard to sell and feed was 👆$$

I went away for 3 weeks over Xmas and I didn't want to have to find someone to keep an eye on chicks in brooders. So I stopped hatching early Nov.

The only leghorn chicks I have kept this season is the few I have just hatched.

I have done a Gold DW rooster swap with a friend and hatched the last few eggs before they stopped laying.

Oh I see. I tried to enjoy showing, but it just wasn't for me. But perhaps my limited experience was just a bad experience. The show people there didn't hesitate to make me feel "less than" when I was younger. :(
Been there done that. I showed a ton when I was younger. I found that you could learn the most from the ones that's been in the game longer if you let them act like that and play dumber than you are.

@Chookwagn how's egg prices there? (eating eggs at the stores)
They're crazy high here. Every Tom, Dick & Hairball here are buying up the feedstore chicks as soon as they come in and their prices are up too.

I tried to ask a pretty highly regarded judge a few questions about what I should be striving for with my Black Copper Marans. He quickly dismissed me and said he wasn't familiar with the breed's SOP so he just picked the biggest birds for Best of Variety and Best of Breed. The Best of Breed BCM hen he chose laid a tinted egg right there in her pen, if I'm lying I'm crying! I still have the pictures I took. I limped away from that show with a pretty broken heart, I'm not going to lie. We butchered nicer Marans than what won that day, and I'm not just saying that because I am butthurt. But I just got a bad taste in my mouth I guess, and I haven't had the heart to try to show anymore birds since.

I go to one show a year just as a spectator. It's a decent APA show. I saw an Ameraucana win that had a brown egg in her cage.
One year I saw a lavender Orpington win as a blue.
