I may have to get a few Welsummer hens when my old Marans hens all die off. I’ve never owned any but I’ve always liked the way they look.
Shapewise I think they are rather basic: what can compete with a small body and well spread tail? (IMO both Leghorns and d'Anvers fall in this category) But they do have a lovely color.

Is the zip tied baby Buck Fifty?
That would be a good name for a Buckeye.
Buck Fifty is a blue band (zip tie). They are from two separate groups/pens, and the breeder had the eggs labeled. One group is banded blue, the other is banded red. I will wing band them and record all their info in my binder.

This is Buck Fifty. He is already kind of a big deal in the group and taught the others where the food and water was.

There is a distinct difference I can see in the two groups of chicks. Buck Fifty and his sibling have light buff colored heads. The 3 chicks from the red band group have more golden looking heads. It’s interesting. The 3 from the red band group are clustered toward the left side of the feeder, and one is standing in the feeder. Buck Fifty is the one behind the feeder in the back right of the pic, and his sibling is the one in the very front of the pic to the left that still looks not completely dry.
