The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Here are 9 of them. I divided them up into two brooders, 4 of the smallest cockerels are in with my husband’s White Leghorns and random other chicks. These are my 6 favorite cockerels and the 3 pullets.

I have turned loose a ton of Leghorn and Legbar/Leghorn cockerels, and a few pullets. All of the older yard roosters are being butchered, so it will be interesting to see which cockerel will end up as the new boss. My husband’s favorite cockerel is the oldest Red x Brown Leghorn.

Handsome!!!!!!!

That last hatch was in the MaticoopX which I usually have the best hatches.
Set 30, tossed 10 at lockdown. I think only 4 were clear and 6 died off early.
Hatched 16 total with the last one needing some assistance.
All in all that's better then the last few so hopefully.....

It was a very interesting hatch though.
I only set eggs from 3 pens. Buff, lavender SD and crele project.
A couple crele hatched first then there was 4. Next time I checked 5 crele and a lavender. Then 5 more lavender but there was 2 buffs that had been pipped for quite awhile. Those 2 buffs hatched then 2 more buffs pipped. They hatched after I moved everyone else and when they finally hatched and mostly dried I removed them and found one more zipped. It didn't seem to make progress and looked to be drying in the shell so I assisted. Something I really do.
So ya maybe a lavender hatched before the last crele or maybe not idk but they all hatched in order by groups.

Moved my Silver Leghorns out of the brooder building today. There are 3 pullets and 10 roosters. 😵‍💫
Wow it is the year of the roosters.
I know my first buffs are 4 cockerels and one pullet. Next in line is 3 buffs. I've tried not to look at them too hard because I don't want the news just yet. 🤣
My Crele project pen is a light brown rooster over a crele pullet so only the boys will have barring and the girls will just be straight browns.
Wouldn't mind being heavy on the males from that pen because that's the only way to move forward with the project at this point. Now watch that group be heavy on females.
