Did the breeder have any other breeds? That's very interesting. I wonder how that happened.

It's not a big deal about the silver rooster.I really hate to hear that, but if you're going to lose some it's always a relief when it isn't your favorites. If my Silvers survive to laying age, I can send you some eggs from them in the Spring.![]()
I saw some buff Leghorns advertised on line as Dutch Leghorns. Are those the same type? It's not a big deal about the silver rooster.
I figured out early on the more varieties you have the more impossible it is to maintain and hang onto them all. I'm sure you know but others might not. The needed numbers X the number of varieties can get crazy in a hurry.
Lots of my projects spawn from another project. The spiderweb effect.
SDW was a start. It went into blue SD and then those went into blue silver crele. SD lost out to further varieties but I've learned if you can't maintain them all maintain what you can but in worse case scenario have something before or after a variety so you can selectively breed back to a lost one.
Silver won't be hard to get back if I desire. Blue SD can easily produce SD. Blue crele can go back to crele and then I can eliminate the barring to get back. If all else I can use something silver to cross back to gold and eventually get there.
I love projects and it's easy to me to see how to push one variety into another project. On the flip side which I don't think I often talk about its just as easy to see how to backtrack to recover something close to being lost.
It doesn't always work but lots of times it does. One reason I've been on the buff kick this spring. I have nothing before or after or a way to bring them back. Those are the nail bitting varieties.
Hoping I'm ahead of them now.@The Moonshiner you've been a bit quiet. Are you still busy catching those varments?
What did you hatch?Hoping I'm ahead of them now.
Coon and skunk first night
Skunk second night
Nothing last 2 nights.
Big horse show going on right now. Always more work for me when boss is gone. Usually it's offset somewhat because several horses will also be gone. This time only 3 went and 1 is already back so just busy.
Also hatch day today so needed to rearrange chicks and clean brooders. Think there's 42 hatched for now. Should be all.but over.
The only thing I can think of is that the line of birds they are referring to are Dutch in origin, and have more of a European type, and not the type/conformation that the U.S. standard calls for. European Leghorns have pinched tails and huge oversized combs, so are very different in type/conformation than U.S. Leghorns.I saw some buff Leghorns advertised on line as Dutch Leghorns. Are those the same type?
That is why I am strongly resisting the urge to add more varieties of Leghorns than I have now. I'm sure I will let some varieties go as I get deeper into it and only focus on my favorites. It's not a big deal about the silver rooster.
