I honestly have no idea. Idk how gnats would kill a flock of birds. That's one state away from me so I'd assume they have the same knats as here and I don't get it.
Just glad they're not trying to murder my birds. No gnat proof pens here.

Yeah, that brought me up short when I read it on their website.

I honestly don't know exactly what was going on. I had enough grief from them years ago and quit following them.
I know even back then there was always something negative going on to cause set backs with orders or availability.
Threads popped up here from time to time and I was sometimes active in them and sometimes just reading.
I know a friend was getting upset with them and at the time they were listing a lot of breeds unavailable because of numerous predators.
It happens to the best of us but it seemed to the point of omg you're losing so much to everything. Are you doing anything proactive, defensively, anything?
I think there ended up being several breeds/varieties wiped out or set back because of the gnats. That was the straw that broke the camels back for me.
Just way too much negativity involved for me.

I love their mission to protect rare heritage breeds but they seem to have lots of breeds you can get form the big hatcheries I have to wonder if they've needlessly over-extended themselves.

When I talked to them over the phone a year or two ago, it sounded like he was exhausted and mentioned being older. Well, I'm a few years older than he is. . Somebody has to keep the uncommon breeds and types going.

That's the impression I got, but I didn't want to get any rumors started. It was a few years ago, and he's still in business and raising lots of chicks. It might have been just a bad day.

That's too bad - I can see getting worn out with it. It also sounds like they've not really been able to adapt to changes in technology and still run in an old school way. As someone who still uses a paper schedule book, I get that - but it's a tough way to run a business if people can't order and pay online.

Some of us remember when things were only done via mail and landlines, but I agree, using computers would probably be helpful.

Oh I remember! And even miss it. But time just doesn't stand still.

I suspect this is only part of the problem. If they’re used to doing it a certain way that might be more efficient than trying to learn something totally new. Someone on another thread (I think) said they also have full time jobs. I can’t imagine trying to look after that many chickens and run a business and work as well.
