The Moonshiner's Leghorns

It is either eb or eb split.
I get a couple or a few every year and have threatened to isolated the eb and do something but I never do.
I tried to get dark browns in the beginning but could only pick up a few that were rose comb. I was silly enough to think about doing some RC versions of my projects but quickly came to my senses because that would double everything and I wasn't even a fan of RCs.
I got into Isabels very early. They really convinced me that hey with some different genes I could really make some new varieties. I split some with someone local that was also getting into them quick.
Immediately I wondered how the lavender would look on the dark browns.
Someone else liked the idea and another thought Isabel RCs would be a hit here because of our cold winters.
I got started but both lost interest and so did I but I'd already put eb in my line. I sorted it out for a while but then when I moved to other projects with browns it'd occasionally pop up.
I don't even know, 7 or 8 years ago  and they still occasionally show up.
Which of the eb split chick's parents do you think carries eb? I would try to put the chick back with that parent to see if you could get some chicks with a pure eb base. That is very interesting. I think ebs have dark underfluff correct? So maybe look the parent birds over and see if any have darker underfluff. Birds with eb also have heavier striping in the hackle/saddle feathers.

And rose combed Isabels would be awesome. I prefer the look of single combs, but after their first really cold winter they lose all their lovely points. Rose combed birds definitely fair better in the winter. I eventually want some rose combed Dark Brown Leghorns.

Woohoo! Come on babies! Get to crackin! :love

They didn't see or hear me coming
Gotcha.
As a non time traveler I didn't think of the surprise element.
I saw the one right away, then the other one next to it. Then as I scanned the rest I was like WTH?
I'm gonna candle and lockdown some later tonight. When's your next batch due?

Next batch due 6 sept

Set 23, candled at day 7.
Removed 6 clears 1 blood ring.

Am about to order exchequer and black hatching eggs from a few hours away. So fingers crossed they travel alright.
I just saw some of those elusive red Leghorn eggs for sale.
Ad said the birds were this years hatch and still laying small eggs. So ya that + shipping risk x price seems to risky for me.

What's the price?

The ones here are $3 per egg + $20 -$30 shipping
I don't remember what shipping was but it was reasonable. $3 an egg which is also reasonable.
Seems every time I come across eggs I'd think about they're $5 or $6 per plus $25 or more shipping.
The kid would like some Legbars or Welsummer. Anything but WHITE eggs. OK he wants something that doesn't lay white. I'd OK legbars but I'd want blue eggs not green, not bluish green.
I'd OK Welsummer if they had at least darker then regular brown egg layers.
Those aren't or shouldn't be hard to find breeds but their eggs I've found seem too pricey. For me anyways.
