Same for my Buffs! $12.50 an egg. Only 6/12 hatched, so the chicks costed me $25 each.

They're all from the chocolate project.
Yes chocolate is sex linked. These are F3s or B whatever. The father is split.
Half his male offspring will be split but won't know which ones by appearance so tossing all males. Half pullets will be chocolate and Half won't. Keep the chocolate pullets and breed to leghorn rooster. Those pullet offspring won't have chocolate so toss them. All males will be split so I can use whichever has the best type and breed back to leghorm.
Just keep flipping back and forth like that. Still say getting back to nice white eggs will be the challenge.

The chocolates will be so lovely! I can't wait to see them! If I only had the pen space I would add so many more colors, including the exchequers! I worry that with all I have going on, if I keep adding varieties I won't be able to do each one justice. I only have adequate time and pen space to work on so many projects at a time without becoming overwhelmed. My husband has most of the 4x4 pens tied up with a bunch of grouchy old Game hens that cannot be turned loose or penned with other hens without literally fighting to the de.ath. He doesn't breed them all, but doesn't want to part with them so they are just taking up prime real estate because they cannot get along with others.

Silver Ameraucana are stupid rare. Only two people selling eggs and just one of those is breeding to standards for showing.
