And what did he say about it?A guy came into the store yesterday wearing a "Brown Leghorn Association" T-shirt. I asked him about it, making sure to pronounce "leghorn" correctly, which made him smile.
I adore the Mille Fleur color and would love to attempt a MFer Leghorn project if I had the pen space. I actually have some half White Leghorns and half SS chicks but If I attempted a MFer Leghorn project I would cross SS to Brown Leghorn because my SS have a wild type base like the browns. I would then mate the F1s together to reinforce the spangling recessive gene. Then mate one of the spangled F2s back to Brown Leghorn, then mate the F2b offspring together to reinforce the spangling, and so on and so forth until they reliably reproduce Leghorn characteristics and MF.View attachment 4236390
Finally someone gets it.
Those were a pair I once had.
At one time there was at Ieast a couple places that sold them. Yes as leghorns but they were more like still in the project phase.
I tried with them and then tried crossing with some of my buffs to improve them. The pattern is complicated so it's one of those have to hatch a lot to get a few to move forwards with.
Playing the odds and with them the odds were never ever in my favor. Most frustrating pattern I've ever messed with and all along the way I had @Chookwagn sitting there cringing. Apparently the pattern is "too messy" for his taste.
That bird is so darling!!! I need!

I try not to think about OEGBs much because I will end up talking the hubby into getting some. They are so precious and cute.OEGB
How could you forget OEGBs? I'm telling ya those things come in EVERY variety it seems.

Is he still kicking around?Dang it!
That bird appears again!![]()
Yes for some reason I believed it would but I've done it so many times now I realize they mean if you hold a bird upside down it will dieEver hear if you hold a chicken upside down dangling it'll die? Ever have it happen? Believe it would?
What is correctly to you?A guy came into the store yesterday wearing a "Brown Leghorn Association" T-shirt. I asked him about it, making sure to pronounce "leghorn" correctly, which made him smile.

We hold them like that all the time, and I have done so since I was a kid. You can't hardly kill a chicken unless you are aiming to. Or unless they are your precious. Then they die if you look at them wrong.Ever hear if you hold a chicken upside down dangling it'll die? Ever have it happen? Believe it would?
I would say maybe he had a massive heart attack because he was panicking? We have lost chickens in freak ways before. And it is ALWAYS the ones you cannot afford to lose. I am so sorry you lost him!Ya I've seen people do it all my life and never seen one or heard of one dying. Read a post a bit back that said never do it cause the chicken would die.
Of course I didn't believe it because I too have done it all my life. Not every time I carry a chicken but I guess I'd say regularly. Lots of times when moving several hens I'll try to move a few at once by holding 3 or 4 by the legs. I don't do it for long periods of time I guess but still.
Anyways at the time I guess I dismissed the notion as honestly I do enough here because lots of misinformation now days. But guess what happened today?
Ya I was moving adults. Breaking down all breeding pens. I was grabbing roosters from pens first so I didn't get hens freaking and have a rooster get stupid. Not really something I worry about either but somehow got into that habit. I caught a rooster and had him by the legs right-side up head and partial body tucked under my arm then went to next pen and caught that rooster.
My buff rooster. I got him but while getting him out the door a hen zoomed out. Ya a buff hen. Not one I really want free ranging atm so I tried to block her with my foot then hopefully grab her. Nope not happening especially with a rooster in each hand.
I decide to quickly get them to and in their new pen so I let the buff dangle. Like not even a minute I get to the pen and go to open the door with the hand that rooster was in.
Look down and he's dead. Limp, neck all stretched eyes closed mouth open zero movement. WTH?
I gotta get back and catch that hen before she goes far. Toss both roosters in pen and watch as the buff hits the dirt with no reaction. D@mn it.
Get back over snag the hen toss her in her new pen then head back to get the dead rooster because I just tossed him into the dirt with about 20 roosters that just moved in together. They'll be doing God knows what to his carcass about now.
I get there and he's not there. WTH? I start scoping to see where they drug him to. WRONG he ain't dead, he's back. Running around the pen without any issues.
Dang that was weird. Never had that happen before. That whole like "puts them to sleep" thing sounds about right.
