The Moonshiner's Leghorns

You must of been reading in a hurry getting caught up.
He only died for a few minutes then he was back up running around the pen like nothing happened. I'm going with that "it put him to sleep" theory.
He probably actually did not die because he's became one I really don't need. He's getting old and I think his fertility has dropped. And besides that I think I have 78 of his sons in the grow out pens.
Yep I missed the part of his resurrection. Well that is good news! What a relief! But see if you didn't have any of his sons and needed him bad, he would have really REALLY died. That is the ways of the chicken.

Is a Frizzle LF Leghorn going to be your next project? lol

That sucks but sounds like he had a good run.
He did, and he was a good bird. I will actually be revamping my Legbars since they are strictly a layer breed for us for our own use. I am going to put the Crele project rooster over some Legbar hens in the spring after I have enough Crele Leghorn project chicks from him, to freshen up the Legbar line. Hopefully infusing the fresh Leghorn blood into them will increase their productivity. They already lay really well as it is, but nothing lays as well as a Leghorn. Adding some fresh blood will be good for the line. I want to take the Legbars in the Crele direction only, since I prefer that color.

Frizzles are a novelty I have never wanted to keep since they can be so tender in the winter. If a bird can't handle our crazy weather and winters, it can't stay here. I am not going to have house chickens or make heated chicken condos to keep adult birds. A frizzled or silkied chicken isn't as likely to make it through our winters.

Stay tuned. We shall see if my nephews' silkies survive the winter. They will get no special treatment here.

Silkies are actually surprisingly hardy, I don't know why.
