The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Moony, got any Pyle Leghorns?
Couple youngster fake ones.
They're splash instead of dominant white.
Pyle was my first project color. No brainer when all you have is whites and browns.

So I may bail out on attending my commencement ceremony tomorrow. The weather in northern Kentucky where my college campus is located is predicted to be showy and very cold tomorrow. It is predicted to start snowing in the area at 1pm, my commencement is at 3:30 pm and lasts until around 6 pm. Around 1-3 inches of accumulation is predicted between 1 and 6 pm, then up to 5 inches total that evening. That coupled with record low temps (coldest temps in the area for the time of year in 15 years) will greatly impact my 2.5 hour commute back home to SE, KY. Plus we will be driving home after dark.

Thoughts? We have AWD/4WD and don't mind driving in the snow, it is the ice that may form on the roadways/interstate that scares me. I hate the thought of getting my child out in conditions like that.

I cannot make decisions, please tell me what to do!

If you know that you are getting a diploma for it, and you are happy with that accomplishment, I would do what would be best for my future. Stay alive, to be able to put your training into your career. You worked hard for it.

So you're saying don't risk it and stay home? I just need someone to specifically tell me what to do. My husband will not make the decision and I cannot. My brain prevents me from making big decisions by myself. It's broken. 😵‍💫

If the roads are going to be that dangerous I wouldn't go.

I have only been through one southern winter and I laughed when the school had snow days. Then I found out why—they should really call them ice days. My husband is a great foul weather driver so he will drive if we have to go somewhere in the snow. I am pretty confident driving in the snow but the ice is not something I choose to tango with if I can avoid it. Mostly because of other drivers. If the weather is terrible, I would skip the ceremony. I went to mine but it was in June. It was nice for my family to take pictures, etc but it wasn’t particularly memorable.

I'm afraid I will regret not going, but I would also surely regret putting my family in danger just for a ceremony. I have earned my degree either way. The ceremony is just *fancy* I guess. Meh, I didn't really want to go anyway.
You really have to make your own decision. I live out in the desert where I don't get that bad of weather. I probably wouldn't be able to drive in what you are expecting anyways.

I had originally decided I didn't want to go but everyone was all like "you will regret not going, you should go!" So I changed my mind. Now with the predicted bad weather, I think I will just stay home and have some professional pictures done. If the ceremony was in June, I would go. But I don't want to risk harm to my child just for a ceremony and a few pictures of me walking across a stage and all that.

I appreciate everyone's input! It makes me feel good about skipping it. Thank you all!

I wouldn't go. Don't go.
When I had my 4WD I never really minded driving in the snow or ice too much. I drove slower and more cautious like a sain person so no biggie.
Put my kid in the vehicle and then I cared. Add brutal temps and it's a no go. I don't worry about myself so much but what happens if I slide off the road with my kid with me? What if something happens and I break down so no heat going? Putting my kid at risk with bitter cold is something I'd never ever what to happen. Maybe bad roads plus low temps wouldn't be worth that risk even if it was a very slim chance imo.
