The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Toned it down on the gifts here also. Got a pitchfork from my husband and my eldest thought it was weird but I wanted one 😂.

We had a nice 45 degree today before another snowstorm with freezing rain hits. At least this year we are getting a few days reprieve every week or two so everything can melt between the storms. My chickens have a big covered area and I shovel them a walkway into the yard for those that feel extra adventurous lol.

Here’s to hoping for a short and mild winter. Been getting 2-6 eggs every day still so enough to keep us covered until they pick back up. Having a teenager in the house we do eat a lot of eggs!
That pitchfork may come in handy. My husband would be suspicious if I asked for one of those because I watch a lot of crime documentaries. 😆

I'm 72. I wish I was fit enough to ride horses still, and I may actually be. I don't know because a) horses are expensive and b) there's no good place to ride around here, and, oh yeah, c) TICKS. I wouldn't do that to a horse. My youth was .... rocky. At this point in my life, I'm stable, serene and content. Nah, I wouldn't go back.

Not requiring but offering a better store. He makes really decent money now but all he said was "way too much to say no to"
Daughter said like close to double what he makes now but you know how girls math so....
No. Do tell, Moony. How exactly DO GIRLS MATH???

The Brown Leghorn hens in with the Silver Leghorn cockerel laid a couple eggs today. They literally laid one egg and then nothing after we put him in there a couple of weeks or so ago. The eggs we got from them today were tiny so we are eating those. Hopefully we will have some of those for the incubator soon. The other Browns and White Leghorns are laying impressively well right now. The Brown pullet in with the Crele has not laid in over 2 weeks. The Incomplete BTR pullet in with the Buff cockerel is still laying in a hit and miss fashion. And the incomplete BTR in with her full brother, also an incomplete BTR has been laying well. So looking forward to seeing chicks from those, and chicks from the Buff pullet with the Red Leghorn rooster over her.

Agreed, and same. Too much trauma and aggravation to look back. Gotta keep our hands to the plow and keep looking ahead. I love horses and would love to learn to ride. My husband and I want to get a draft horse or a mule later on once we get more serious about homesteading and have more land.

With a calculator? 😆

But girl math is like when you need a can of hairspray for $20, but you get free shipping if you spend $50 so you add $30 worth of stuff your cart you really don't need, just to save $6.99 on shipping. Guilty as charged.

My white leghorns are part golden retriever. I'm convinced. Finally got two pullets this September after reading everyone in here talk about how much they like them. I go out to scoop poop in the morning and they are all over me! Poking at my jacket and hat, following me around. Flighty? Naw mine are puppydogs. :lau They are also by far the most adventurous of the 9 new ones. Snow on the ground and they are out bouncing around digging to find dirt and scratch underneath. Can't wait til its warm enough to be out there for a longer time.

I think my husband gets more handsome as he ages. The silver coming into his beard is 😍. Being 20 is all good when you are 20. But maturing and embracing your age is all good too. Fighting it doesn’t change anything. Taking care of the body you have and staying active so you feel better and essentially younger goes a long way.
I agree, being sedentary ages you a lot more than years do. My boyfriend is 11 years older than myself, but because he's athletic we can hopefully do lots of cool things together for many years.
