The Moonshiner's Leghorns

LOL!!! I haven’t had Maxwell House since I was a kid. Everyone seems to go to Folgers to save money but I don’t skimp on coffee. Community or Gevalia if I’m buying.
I love the McCafe brand coffee the best. But I haven’t had expensive coffee or Gevalia so that sounds fancy. 🥰

In chicken talk, I decided not to hatch this year since I will be mostly absent just like last year. My wife dealt with all of it for the most part. It’s not her hobby, it’s mine, so if any chicks hatch it will be from a broody OEGB. By the way, they haven’t laid a single egg since I got them, whenever that was.
It is common for chickens to stop laying when they are moved to a new place. It can take a few weeks for them to start laying again. Hopefully they start laying soon. OEGB hens are awesome broodies and fierce little mamas so they will do well hatching their own eggs. No incubating or brooding of chicks required on your end. So thats a good thing. 🥰

I ordered two blue-breasted brown Leghorn pullets for early April. I have ordered from this guy before who makes a business of growing out chicks (smart, right?) but when I showed up to get my birds he hadn’t received one of the breeds from the hatchery so I didn’t get it…which is a long way to say I ordered the Leghorns but I am not counting on them. It sure would be nice though.
We are growing out a ton of White Leghorn pullets to sell them as started pullets in the spring. Hopefully they sell well. I will hatch and grow out some brown leghorn pullets also once the weather is better.

I’m sorry you didn’t get your pullets! 😢

I wanted a wood-burning stove but my husband really REALLY wanted a fire-place so I caved on that one. The builder did use rocks from our land and also used a hatchet to make a mantle from a cherry tree that had to be cut down anyway, so it is pretty (this was at Christmas). But in my book, stoves are more functional.

Wow that is fancy! I love it. ❤️

We culled a few more roosters out of all the grow outs in the brooder building and moved the two oldest groups out to an outdoor brooder on Tuesday. I can’t remember if I told you all that or not with my nightshift brain. So far, they are all doing well despite the cold temps. 😁
