The Moonshiner's Leghorns

We bring our feeders in at dusk and lock them up in the well house. We have one very large feeder that stays in the hen house, and it gets locked up in there. An opossum does visit that one from time to time, but we see no evidence of mice or rats.
Opossums have taken several of my free-ranged chickens lately. You may have to set a trap. We have trapped a ton of opossums and racoons over the past few months.

I'm an idiot because I have TWO DIFFERENT BREEDS of black chickens!!! I have black Ameracaunas and I also ordered Dominiques but they didn't hatch, so I was offered two other breeds as subs. Without thinking I chose the BA because I've had them before and I like them, but DUUH! Now I can only tell them apart with difficulty (I don't see well!)

Ours are made out of 5-gallon buckets with handles. Easy to move.
I don't think she can move hers easily. A 5-gallon bucket would have been better if she would have used that instead.

We have too many chickens and pens to use feeders, except for the chicks. If we used feeders we would be feeding every rodent in our county. We have to keep poison out all the time. I hate rats and mice. 😖

A trap is def in this fella's future, don't you worry. Soon as I can walk, he is history.

The Ameraucanas should be bearded so you should be able to tell them apart that way hopefully if you get close enough.

Oh yes, I can tell them apart now, in fact it's easier than that! The BA ladies have nice big, upright single combs!

That sounds like a good plan.

How are you feeling? Hopefully you are healing well!
Oh, well .... this knee is not cooperating at ALL, in fact it's getting weaker and more painful by the day. But I see my ortho tomorrow so I hope to learn something. I just hope she doesn't order 8 weeks of staying off of it like she did on my other knee last year. That was ... grueling.
