The Moonshiner's Leghorns

I'm getting more eggs then we can eat for sure now. Dog has always gotten quite a few but I've never fed them back to the chickens.
I should do that. Gives them a purpose and if it cuts feed costs even a smidgen that's a plus.
Of course I'm a go big or go home so I'll need to look for a huge witches cauldron to boil them in. Sounds fun.
Please don't boil the buff egg's.

Waste not, want not. I had a 3 egg sandwich for lunch. I'm getting alot of egg's here now. My dog likes them, and smaller eggs get boiled up and crushed, then fed back to the chickens shell and all for a treat.
I had two scrambled eggs for lunch and put eggs on the salads at dinner tonight. My husband is taking some to work tomorrow to sell I got 15 eggs today and am a little overwhelmed! I dehydrated about 10 dozen, just to have some in reserve on the shelf.

It’s been snowing most of the day here. No likey. I walked out to check the small coops because no one has occupied them during a snow and there was snow on the HC but they were both bone dry inside. So that’s good anyway. I hope it all melts away tomorrow.

:lau we'll see 🙄
Na, when I've fed eggs to animals it's been ones too dirty to hatch or eat myself.
I've always got girls penned together without boys that I'm not using for breeding at any given time. Those are the eggs I eat or give away. It's not worth the effort to sell white eggs here. People want "farm fresh" and too many think that means brown eggs.
Even giving them away is time and effort that I think would be more wisely spent cutting feed costs at this time.

I can understand that. Some people just don't realize that no matter what color the egg is on the outside, they are the same on the inside according to how many nutrients that they had excess to.

I'm still looking for those Gold Leghorn hatching egg's that you said are Buffs.

Ya I hatched way heavily towards males with the buffs last year. I'd guesstimate only 10 or 12 females out there and more males then that.
I think instead of keeping just a couple males I'll set up trios or pairs. Use more males to maybe keep genetics from getting bottle necked as much.

That’s awesome you ended up with a good number of Buff pullets!

As much of a pain as they can be, I usually keep a few males from each line for that reason. They get annoying though free ranging, especially to the hens.

We feed our dogs raw eggs. One or two per dog per day. But they love them boiled also. You definitely need to boil a bunch and feed them to your dogs and birds for sure.
