At one time or another one of use will have to make a choice like this it is never easy and sometimes you wonder if you did the right thing, some can't be with their animal as the light leave their friends eyes but this doesn't mean they don't know you loved them and I am sure for those that could be with their friend they understand.
I had a friend that asked what is it like to have a animal die in your arms, I could only sad it is not a good feeling. I said all the animals I have had that had to leave me I was there to see them as they left. I told them of what will happen and it is ok it is their time and they are the lucky ones I have to stay it is not my time. I have had critters that I have had to do the deed myself, I think this is harder for someone to do the deed themselves.
I know a lot of animal care and how to treat animals to feed to know what to do in shock and all sorts of things but even with the vast knledge I have I still was not abe to make a animal better. You can't beat yourself up thinking what if you have to know in your heart THIS IS the right thing to do and some become selfish and want the animal to live wishing the animal will get better I think this kind of thinking is that it just is to hard on the person to think of having the deed done. I don't think they mean to have the aninal suffer they are doing the best they can but sometimes it is not best.
I am sorry for your loss but when you die your friend will be waiting for you to greet you as will your loved ones, I have heard all your pets you have ever had will be there. I hate to see what is waiting for me I have had a lot of pets and a few dogs and all the rabbits OY VEY I don't know if my loved ones will be able to see me through all the pets I have had.
