The most MASSIVE egg ever layed...

...by one of my hens, Easter egger, normally they lay small to medium sizes

The other day I look up to see Brownie crouching amongst everyone making funny noises. I examine her and see the lips of the vent turning inside out like a pouting lip and her noises are strained pushes, a gloved examine has confirmed an egg bound hen.

After a warm soak, I spray the vetericyne gel there and leave her be, a couple hours later I'm back to repeat the soak but this examine shows a normal vent.

I look around the run and find this.....

Compare it to their regular size egg...

No wonder this poor girl was suffering... just thankful it all turned ok

I don't have a scale unfortunately. I've had double yolkers and mini eggs with mini yolks but this was not just long, but wide and round as well that poor hen..... lol

Trend? I've never had a scale. My mom never do, none of my aunts had one. Measuring cups? Spoons? Well, I use em. But the women in my remembered gene pool tossed in a handful of this, a palmful of that, a pinch of the other. I'm not half the cook they were. I use cups and spoons but I never used scales.

I use both measuring cups/spoons and a kitchen scale. The scale is helpful for weighing eggs, if for no other reason than when you get a whopper like this one!

be sure to take pics after you open it!
(i weigh my eggs on a little postal scale....but I use the scale mostly for knowing how many stamps to put on an envelope--saves trips to the post office!)

I weigh ours on a little kitchen scale. Largest i ever got was 3.5 ounces!!!

I occasionally get monster eggs. Some are double yolks. Some are a single yolk with a large amount of white. Never had an egg in an egg yet. Open it and see.
