THE MOTHER'S DAY HATCH-A-LONG!!!! The last day to join in and set eggs with us is April 28th.

These tips are from BYC member Aveca:

Damaged Air Cells in shipped Eggs:
my vet gave me a plan sheet quite a few years ago. It says for shipped eggs after the initial 24 hr rest period she had me place them in the forced air incubator in the turner but do not turn the turner on for the 1st 5 - 7 days depending on the damage..i have seen some pretty bad bubbly air cells heal as they grow and become surrounded by the veining. That gives embryo time to get a good start, after that a candling and turner goes on. You will be surprised that those will hatch, hatch them in upright position in case air cell tends to travel a lot at lockdown time. we hatched a bunch of del eggs for a friend that were shipped.

Seems to work.

No rain, just a lot of wind. Bleary and blustery when we need wet!

I have to sort out all of my eggs and figure out what I'll set. It's going to take hours!!

Ooo, ooo can I join?

I set turkey eggs on the 18th, but they take a little longer than chickens, so that evens out right? right? :p

They're Pencilled Palms, and the eggs are gorgeous!

My girls are laying, so I'm setting BR turkey !! Though I'll set when the oldest eggs are 7 days.

I'm in! Setting 24 shipped eggs. This will be my second attempt at hatching, first time I got 3 chicks from 15 eggs so I am setting a lot more eggs this time - idk what I will do if they all hatch.
Do you follow the dry method??

Hi! I'm in! I just set some LOVELY eggs from ChooksChick today. Silkied Ameraucaunas, with a gold laced Orpington, and a... GASP.... chocolate Orpington! Hooray!
Golden laced Orpingtons??? Chocolate orpingtons??? I'm in trouble!!

Mind if I join? I'll be setting eggs on Sunday.

I lost one of my favorite hens yesterday, but I have several of her eggs still...they have been in the fridge however.I've seen threads where people hatch chicks from Trader Joes and such, and I figure at most, the oldest egg is five days old. While I'm not expecting a great hatch rate (I just hope I get at least one pullet out of this, maybe one that looks sorta like her late mom) I figure it's worth a shot.

I am planing to set in a couple hours. I need some last minute guide lines if you please.

I am following the guide for setting them for 12 hours to rest. Into the bator for the first 7 days with no turner on.

Here are my questions before I start.

What temp? (100?) What Humidity? (40?) Also should I candle them before I stick them into the bator? Should they all have SOME air cell right now or will it develope in the 7 days?
