The Mystery of Vanishing Chickens

Not too long ago I watched a hawk swoop down and carry off a rabbit from my backyard. The only evidence it happened was the rabbit screaming. After a few seconds that was gone too.

Sad for the bunny. Lucky for my chickens. I learned that free range isn't an option for me before I lost a bird.

Good luck and hope you figure it out!

We also have our run completely covered. We started with plastic netting, which did solve the problem, but a small branch would be enough to tear it down. A windy storm would do some serious damage, forget about snow. This year we covered the entire top of our run in thick galvanized wire. We'll worth the effort and the small investment.

The entire top of my run is covered, except for a 1x3 foot span. That span was enough for a hawk to fit thru and attempt to grab one of my chickens. Unfortunately for the hawk, it then got stuck in the run and could not get back out until it was noticed and rescued by the neighbors. The span has since been covered.
