She slowly stood, her hands resting on the table.
"Calm yourself human. You are in a Rebellion state, though the king's loyalists still seep into this town, he has no control here. So answer me, for your sake, are you for or against Lanchester?"

Jintao sunk back down. His heart felt like it would beat a hole in his chest. He was running out of words to say. He was loyal to the King by force, but as far as the Rebels, he wasn't sure if he was for them either. Deep down, all he wanted was to live a peaceful life, which he was living until he met Tay, with the exception of his depression. Finally, he said, "Why does it matter to you?"

Nautalis released a long, slow breath, still standing over the table as she stared at the young man.
"In truth, it does not matter much. Not to me anyway. It should, however, matter to you, as it will decide whether or not I continue this discussion-" She folded her hands behind her, sliding the small dagger from beneath the loose sleeve. "-or if I finish what I came here for and move on."
The woman stood poised, her stance mimicking that of a soldier addressing a captain, contained and straight with her arms clasped behind her.

Jintao slid on the bench as far as he could go. The wall was on his side and behind him with the table in front of him. "Maybe I'm forced into life choices that I'm not happy with," he said, looking up into her eyes. His fear showed through like he could melt if he was ice and she was a raging fire. "I'm not who I want to be, so I don't think who I am for or against matters."

Nautalis stared at him in motionless silence for a long, tense moment, disproval showing in her eyes.
"If you aren't who you want to be, then by God, be him."
She slid the dagger back into the leather sheath against her arm, sitting down and leaning forward in the seat once more, propping an arm on the table.
"If you're being forced into a life you don't want, then you need to learn to break free." The cunning glitter returned to her gaze and she tugged the scarf away from her face, letting the covering drape from her neck over her chest.
"What would you say about perhaps making a deal, yes? Can you sail?"
