Jintao stopped at the captain's cabin and waited for her to let them in. She was still ordering her crew around, so it gave him a chance to speak out of earshot. He addressed Tay first, "Unfortunately, chaos on a ship is not what I'm used to. There needs to be order, even if it means the death of a foolish member."
Jintao let out a sigh. Maybe being threatened by death was always a way of life for him; he just wished he was numb to it.
He turned toward Nautalis. "This won't work," he said. "The crew is out of control and unless the captain decides to crack the cat," he glanced at one of the Harpies. "Which I don't think will happen, there will never be any order on this ship. Members will die of starvation if they're not foolish enough to fight, others will drown unnoticed, and the ship will probably run aground before anyone has learned names and faces."
"Besides," Jintao paused as he glanced over to Vhanya. She wasn’t approaching yet, so he continued. "Where I come from, one must prove themself worthy in order to join. That eliminated fools and rats alike. Fools died trying, and rats didn’t want to commit the crimes they were exposing. I understand that not all ships have such harsh starts, but it sure built a stable crew that could be counted on."
