-The Mythics RP-

Jintao peeled Tay's body off the wall and slammed her into it again, harder this time. "Yeah? And you expect me to believe you?" he kept his face close to her's. "I believe you about as much as the last dog that drowned. You're working for somebody. I know it!"
Jintao loosened his grip just enough to move Tay's wrist from the handle to the inch of blade that wasn't swallowed by the wall, pressing just enough for her to feel it without peircing skin. He was accustomed to hostages not talking, some even refusing to the point of death.
Tay's quivering increased and her legs shook more. He knew her legs were to the point of temporary paralysis, so he pressed his knees in deeper. His conscience barked at him, telling him to stop. He blocked it out like he had always done, reminding it that he had killed innocent victims before.
Jintao's grip loosened. He held back his knees only a little. Tay held her face away from his, the same face he had met only a few days before. Scared, lonesome, and helplessness hidden by a toughness that wasn't to be broken. That toughness was gone now like a victim of abuse and fear for her life replaced it.
Idiot! Fool! What are you doing? He didn't want this. He had left it all behind the moment he jumped off the  Whey. Self-preservation was why he was doing this, and if it had to end like this, he wasn't sure he wanted it.
Siudalmus, it was the very thing that kept him going. It was why he lost his arm instead of his life that day for the fear of it was too great. He pressed Tay's wrist to the side of the blade continuing his threat, but with less risk.
"How'd you know?" his tone had calmed, despite him keeping its firmness. "Tell me, Lyra, how'd you know. Who told you about my arm?"
That clap against the wall of the first mate's cabin, something large and hard. The harder she strained, the more Ember could hear the scrapping mixed within the muffled voices- voices taught with tension or fear.
Her cabin door swung open and she swept out, wings tight so as not to brush the doorframe this time. Instinct overcame, all of her senses were pricked halfway toward her own movement, forcing silence.
And as she threw the cabin door open, still brandishing her knife, the ocean of fear swirling in the air threatened to knock her back.
She could never have explained what she did next. Thinking straight, she would have probably reacted the same way she had when Vhanya threatened to shoot Lichen just that morning.
No, easy thought abandoned her here. But not until her eyes met Lyra's, and the familiar glitter of fear within them shot clean through her blood.
The Harpy lunged for Jintao, grabbing his wrist and yanking back on it, driving a knee into his ribs. She attempted to brace the blade against his throat, but her angle was off. Her support gave way under the phantom space of his right sleeve, and she had to pull back the knife again to keep from slicing his throat. The motion threatened to thrust her against him and she kneed him hard again, using the motion to pull back, still aiming the knife close to his throat.
"Back- get back," she hissed, barely audible.

The door's opening should have caught Jintao's attention. The swift move toward him should have caused him to act, but the most he could do was release Tay's wrist and pull the blade free as the Harpy pulled him away. His brain went blank. It was kill or be killed. Tay was no longer a concern. If Vhanya hired her, here was her backup.
His training with adrenaline beat back the pain in his ribs. The intruder's grasp failed his empty sleeve. His brain pulled her close, but his hand wasn't there to act. Ember pushed him back with her knees. His blade blocked her's from his throat.
This wasn't how he wanted it to go. He was about to release Tay. She felt innocent, and he couldn't take another innocent life. And now, this intruder- this backup who wiped away the doubts he was feeling- was only proving his original thoughts correct. He pushed her blade away, keeping his attached to hers, angling his for the right slip to hit her windpipe.
"This isn't between me and you," he warned. He was ready. Any move she'd make, he was already ahead of her. Kill her? No, he couldn't- or was it shouldn't? If Vhanya truly was after his head, this was going to end in Ember's death. It had to. It wasn't his choice. "Step down in peace or it won't end well for either of us. Trust me."

@-Shade- (Completely random, but I've come to the conclusion that Ember has never dealt with crisis. I had to rewrite this like several times and I'm still not sure if I'm happy with it. 🤦‍♀️)

(It's perfectly fine Lacy, you did amazing ❤️)
(Ember is highly skilled both in a fight and with blades- I'm super excited to actually write some action for her and not just empty threats. She needs a chance to prove herself)

"Trust you?"
Her voice was low and gravely, rung clean of anger and instead, darkened with dread, threatening to expose the tightness in her lungs. She pressed her blade firmly back against his, making both weapons tremble from the tension. She kept her own well balanced, feeling for any shift in his pressure.
Lyra was safe behind her now, that grounding knowledge fought back the snowstorm of memories threatening her mind.
"As long as you threaten another innocent life fool-" she bit the last word with the effort not to let her voice crack "-then it will always be between you and me."
Another. She'd slipped. How could she be so stupid?
This wasn't the same human. She knew that. Nothing about the man before her said he'd taken "another" innocent life before. Truly, she knew nothing of this situation, but the awakened monster ravaging her thoughts now would see the end of her if she didn't at least try to keep blood from being spilled tonight.
Whatever dignity clung to her refusal at desperation wouldn't let her correct the words. So instead, she pressed him back further, more slowly, the heel of her wrist pressed firmly against his chest.
"I don't know you. Would never 'trust you.' But I don't want to end you."
