The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

I am giving him more time if he continues to improve no matter how small,,I also realize that he may not get better

@misbehavin

Was he out ranging at all? I have known a couple of folks that had very healthy birds one day and very sick the next.

One of them had a neighbor had sprayed their property for pests and he either got in the overspray or ate something from the ground. He was known for going over that neighbor's direction. He went down fast within a day's time.

Another had a similar experience with them getting into some poison that they didn't know was around their property.

msbehaven, activated charcoal is remedy for ingesting to get rid of toxins....I could be steering you wrong and maybe it is a muscle issue, if you want to try it, it probably couldn't hurt the rooster. should be able to get some at a drugstore.

he was penned 100% for the time i have had him wanted to make sure he was healthy...no pesticides used here, good old fashioned bug zappers out by the chickens they love the toasty bugs..he is still hanging in there I will check on him in the am, his eyes are still clear etc his pupils respond even kicked a bit when i moved him to be able to open the door..i went down to check on some little ones i have in a brooder and he had moved back across the cage again so he is moving around a little, if he makes it I will call the local vets as these are very small country towns which means the vets treat livestock....did i say towns I ment villages not enough people for a town..one 4 miles away has 700 another town has like 1200 6 miles away ... nothing that ends in mart within 15 miles of me...

Cute video of my 3 day old chicks out with the co mommas. Total of 5 hatched. Cute little buggers. Thanks to my best friend I get daily videos of them. Mommas are sleeping with them on the coop floor :)

Misbehaven hope your too gets better

AFL, great that you get the daily videos - now thats a good friend!

msbehaven, ok, I"m giving up on the idea that he has some kind of toxin issue. I kind of liked that idea because it is often fixable....keep us posted.

.I am going to clean the coop with bleach just is case it is brand new so pretty easy to clean after removing the hens just in case in was something that others can catch..I only had him for 12 days so really he could have gotten into something etc before i got him..he came from the equivalent of a puppy mill for chickens kept in an old hog house most of his life no natural light , no roosts, until hatching season was done, the man get good birds an then mistreats them and sell them at right around a yr old then gets some more expensive stock and does it again ,to turn a quick profit..buy birds from Greenfire, Cottage hills etc

I have two Meaties still alive at 18 weeks so i do something right they are very sweet birds and notice fully feathered thats is a slw cockrel the same age,the meat birds are small turkey size, 1 of them need to go she is way at the bottom of the pecking order and has lost an eye in a fight totally healed but she breathes horrible when it gets hot..the second actually is fairly high ranking..sleeps on the highest roost well other than the rafters which my Dorkings roost in..
