The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

I
I went out this afternoon to let the big kids out of the run to range and discovered the 2 pie tins of FF devoured. Yay. So my whole flock is now on FF. I am using crumbles in my FF now and having a hard time draining the liquid off(mostly just using a ladle at this point), if I switch to pellets will they become soft enough for the chicks to break apart and eat(6-8 weeks old)? Now that I know they are going to eat the FF I am going to start adding BOSS and other whole grains to the big kids FF.

I use pellets in my FF and it breaks right down into mush doesn't look like pellets at all.

Here is what mine looks like. Layer pellets, oats, scratch mix & boss

hope she's on the road to recovery!!

You could order the poultry press and you will have all the show dates come to your home

thanks!! Just subscribed!

It looks like the California Show is in Tres Pinos, in San Benito County. I am born and raised in CA, and have never heard of the city or the county....or the 25 Highway. Just pulled it up on google. It is about a 6 hour drive from our home. I just asked my family, "Do you want to go to a Poultry Show this weekend?" "What's a poultry show?" "Yeah, sure!" So, it is a possibility!! Very exciting!

I can't wait to go to one,, just have to figure out when I can get away, and where. Just going to my little local county fair was exciting!

Quote: I made banana bread this year for the Holidays (12 loaves, so lots of peels left over), and this time I chopped up all the peels into bite sized pieces for my Guineas/Turkeys/Peafowl (to avoid any crop impaction issues)... they all horked it down and pushed and shoved to get at it like it was candy. That was almost 3 wks ago and all are still alive and well

thank you both - thought I might have missed something on the 'do not feed' list... But I'll prob at least cut them in 2 mid-wise in the future -- it was something seeing a 7 inch long peel almost disappear into a chicken throat that fast! - about 2 inches sticking out - thought she'd choke!!

you can go ahead & laugh at me -- I am !!
