Yes, the ones we got from the hatchery as well as Buffy do go broody and are excellent mommas.

The Towline Hatchery hens were very broody. I just like the looks of the English type. Problem is most breeders in the U.S. of English Orps. do not breed buffs. Southern Farm Hatchery does not have many pictures of their chickens on their website.

Most of my birds were from Meyer's hatchery (several of them were brooders)- although I think the Buff orps may have been a feed store impulse (their supplier was Crackle Hatchery).

That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure I had the right site.

My BOs came from Sand Hill Preservation out of Iowa. Some were broody, some were not. None of them went broody until their third spring (counting the spring they hatched).

I have an order in with sandhill. I won't get them till May 7.

Should I incubate my first eggs, buy day olds, or buy week old pullets? I'm not interested in adults, I want to socialize them from a young age, and for them bond with eachother as chicks.
