The Natural Chicken Keeping thread - OTs welcome!

Really? Never even considered that!

We did hot stone tonight. So grilled I guess :)

yup. cooked chicken bones should never be fed to dogs but raw its fine. My poodles have HORRIBLE teeth and nothing works except chicken wings to help clean their teeth of plaque. Id switch them completely to raw but henrys stomach doesent agree with it. Esme did amazingly well when I tried

Our dogs got a lot of skin and some bones as well as the tips of the wings. They watched me like little hawks.

Yeah Im sure they loved that! XD I need to start buying more chicken wings. The dogs teeth are starting to look bad again and id rather hold off on having to get them put under for teeth cleaning. Henry is only two and bad teeth no matter what I give him. When I was switching to raw their teeth started clearing up super fast and stayed that way with regular treats of chicken wings when I stopped raw but I havent in a few months and its coming back.

Wait! So, just raw chicken wings? And that's ok for them? I'm always worried about feeding raw meat. We used to give our Doby smoked hamhocks and he loved them, but they were cooked.

I don't know who Walt is but I do know I was having humidity and temp trouble with my incubator during the last three days before hatching. If I had a chick hatched out from a broody hen with crooked toes I would cull.
I also will be keeping close eye on this chick for it's life time if I keep it in a breeding pen.

Walt is Fowlman01 on BYC and is a long-time breeder, experienced show judge, and oldtimer contributor on the 2 threads that Beekissed started. I had stated that crooked toes were thought to be from incubator temp fluctuations or genetic, and he replied that he felt that most were genetic. I have had crooked toes from broody-hatched very expensive Ameraucana and Salmon Faverolles shipped eggs from very reputable breeders.

I tried raw but they didn't want to keep it in their bowls which isn't so good when they are house dogs and i really didn't want raw meet on the floor in the house. or on the sofa or rug.

Raw bones is fine as long as their food grade from a trusted source. I would never give cooked bones they can splinter and cause complications but smokes is a healthy alternative to raw bones for those not as comfterable with raw. I dont like giving my dogs the larger raw bones unless they are kenelled because I dont want them throwing bloody bones on my bed XD And trust me. my dogs run to my bed with any treats

And chicken wings should only be given to little dogs. bigger dogs can be given chicken necks,

and boy do they work better than brushing!! Wow the difference
